Recipe Development - Jekka’s

Jekka’s is an award winning herb farm and cookery school with 62 Gold Medals at Chelsea Flower Show. Based just north of Bristol, Jekka’s specialises in top of the range herbs which are often different to those you would get from mainstream growers. As part of launching their new range of herb boxes, they needed short, on brand recipes to showcase the herbs which were going to the herb boxes that month.

The recipes I developed for Jekka’s Herb Boxes which also included writing the introduction copy for the recipes on the website.

Thai Basil Sorbet

Thyme, Taleggio and Red Onion Tart

Roast Tomato and Oregano Soup

Basil Herb Oil, Scallops, Pea Puree and Prosciutto

It was a pleasure to work with Helen. We required herb based recipes to be a developed and delivered to a brief that matched our herb boxes. The recipes were needed in a relatively short timescale. Helen always produced delicious recipes with professional pictures that can be viewed online and were sent out on recipes cards with our boxes. We have received wonderful reviews for our herb boxes. I recommend Helen to other businesses.’ Alistair McVicar, Director, Jekka’s

Recipe Development and Editing -PlateUp - Lead Development Chef

PlateUp is an innovative recipe and grocery shopping app which aims to make cooking from fresh as easy as possible (https://www.plateup.app/home). The app has approachable recipes and clever technology which converts your chosen dishes into a shopping order with your favourite supermarket.

I worked with PlateUp for a year during their start up phase. I was responsible for recipe editing across the site, creating editing standards, writing recipe introductions, recipe collection curation, new recipe development and editing recipes from celebrity chefs they were partnered with such as Levi Roots, The Alberti Twins and Alex Hollywood.

Helen joined our team for a short term project and ended up working with us exclusively for a year.
Helen worked seamlessly with our marketing and growth team to create and curate delicious recipes for our users. For example, Helen helped to streamline our recipe categories and recipe curation which vastly improved our user experience (data proven)….
Developing and making food is Helen's passion and we look forward to continuing to work with her in relation to these areas.

Recipe Editing

I can help with editing recipes within existing collections to ensure:

  • Consistency in writing style and format. I work with clients to agree a writing style and editing parameters within which to edit recipe content which matches their brand, so the recipes present themselves as a connected collection.

  • Correct spelling and grammar within recipes.

  • Ensure that the culinary information in the recipes is correct, easy to follow and meets any UK standards for food safety.

Recipe Editing - Rachel Khoo

I worked for Rachel to edit all of her existing recipes across the Rachel Khoo website. The brief was to ensure a consistent format and to match her tone as I was editing the recipes. I also had to review the recipe content to make sure that they were correct from a culinary perspective and write copy for introductions for new recipe launches for weekly newsletters.

Recipe Testing

I undertake recipe testing on behalf of clients to:

  • Ensure that it is easy to follow and all the recipe steps are in place.

  • The end result is as the chef wants it to be when it is produced by someone other than themselves.

  • To help the creativity process when writing new recipes by trying out different versions of the same recipe to get to the absolute best final result.

  • Documenting recipe adjustments during the testing process.
