Homemade Pizzas
Making pizzas at home is great way to get kids cooking. With half term approaching, it’s also a fun activity to bring everyone together and while away a rainy February afternoon.
Your resulting pizzas will undoubtedly be cheaper and healthier than the shop bought alternatives and you can get as creative as you like in choosing your toppings.
My Basic Bread Recipe makes four large or six smaller pizza bases which will crisp up using a large, thin baking tray.
Method
Pre-heat oven to 220c/200c Fan/Gas Mark 7
Make the Basic Bread Recipe up to the point of knocking the air out. Then divide the dough into 5 portions and shape into balls. Dust with flour and place on a floured surface. Cover the remaining dough with a clean tea towel while you are making each pizza.
To make a pizza, roll out the dough into a pizza base the size you want. Roll a bit thinner for crispier pizza or a bit thicker for those who like more crust. Place on a baking sheet which has been sprinkled with dried semolina.
Spoon some tomato sauce into the middle of the pizza and work outwards with the back of a spoon using a circular motion. Leave a gap of an inch or so at the edge for a crust.
Put on your toppings. Aim for around three or less as more can make it soggy. Top with cheese if you are using - around half a mozarella ball is a good amount per pizza.
Put into the top part of the oven and cook for 8 - 10 minutes, turning once half way through. Be careful when you open the door as the heat escaping the oven can be quite intense.
Remove from the oven, allow to cool for a couple of minutes, slice and transfer to a plate.

3-4 tbsp dried semolina for dusting the baking tray
